Through the guidance of the White and Steele Cares Subcommittee, the firm is a committed member of Metro Caring’s volunteering group. Multiple people from White and Steele, including at least one shareholder, volunteer at Metro Caring on their busiest distribution day of the month. Metro Caring is one of Denver’s largest food assistance programs, distributing 4,000 to 6,000 pounds of food per day and over 1,000,000 pounds of food per year to the hungry. Those in need are able to grocery shop, minus the cash register, and put food on the tables for their families. Did you know that more than 25% of working families do not have enough food to meet their basic needs?
Providing the hungry with food is just the first step, however. Metro Caring also works to help families break out of poverty by providing classes to teach them about health, nutrition, job readiness, money management, how to grow their own food, and much more. With their new Hunger Relief Center, Metro Caring can reach even more people than before! The new building has a beautiful greeting area, classrooms to facilitate the education initiatives, a shopping area for food distribution with a full fridge and freezer, plus a large warehouse to make volunteering easier than ever.
A group from White and Steele volunteers at Metro Caring on the last Tuesday evening of each month. Come and join us!
